In April of 2020, Carmeuse Americas and Frederick Water, a public authority charged with providing water and wastewater services in Frederick County, reached a long-term agreement to provide water and water storage infrastructure to the residents of Frederick County, Virginia.  The agreement addresses three main points: cost, supply, and storage.

This new water deal is a real win-win-win for everyone involved.  Because the limestone in our quarries is a natural filter and provides exceptionally high-quality water, our unique water assets offer Frederick Water a reliable and cost-effective solution that every resident of the County will benefit from, both financially and environmentally, for generations to come.  The inclusion of a lease to own option will allow Frederick Water to purchase quarries of Carmeuse, at a later date, once mining is completed.

We’re extremely proud of the partnership we have had with Frederick Water, and will now continue to have under this agreement.  Our inactive mines will provide a cost-effective source of water, while also generating income for Carmeuse.  As the County continues to grow over the next several decades and the demand for water only increases, utilizing our inactive quarries for water storage makes sense for everyone.
