Hydrate has been used for centuries as a primary ingredient in masonry mortars and is still used in historical and contemporary applications. Mortars made with lime and cement exhibit excellent workability balanced by adequate compressive strength combined with high flexural strength, low water permeability and excellent bond strength.

Studies have compared the performance of cement-lime mortars with masonry cement mortars. Cement-lime mortars exhibited higher bond and shear strengths and lower water permeability. Mekal® shows its versatility and beauty when used for plastering and rendering.
