Hempcrete is made of hemp, hydrate, and water. It can be produced on a building site or in precast blocks. It is unique, as it is carbon negative, and is therefore highly appreciated by architects and investors who are looking for green building solutions. Hempcrete is mainly used as insulating material. However, when it contains more binder, it can be used as a loadbearing wall. Hemp constructions are very healthy inside, thanks to the product’s moisture regulation capabilities during the day and night.

Hydrate has been used as a primary ingredient in masonry mortars for centuries and is still used in both historic and contemporary applications. Mortars made with lime and cement exhibit superior workability balanced by appropriate compressive strength, combined with high flexural strength, low water permeability and superior bond strength. Studies have compared the performance of cement-lime mortars with masonry cement mortars. Cement-lime mortars have shown higher bond and shear strength and lower water leakage.
