Yesterday in Antwerp, our Tim Van den Bossche joined more than 600 industry leaders and European decision makers, including Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, at the European Industry Summit.
📜 The message from the Antwerp Declaration Community couldn’t be clearer: Europe cannot remain strong without a strong industry. For the lime industry, this reality is even more evident. Lime is essential to Europe’s steel, construction, chemical, paper, glass, environment and water-treatment value chains. Yet as a hard to abate sector, we are facing growing pressure from persistently high energy prices and rising carbon costs.
Europe must now move from strategy to action.
To secure the future of our industry, and the many value chains that depend on us, we urgently need:
1. Competitive energy and carbon costs
2. Practical solutions for unavoidable process emissions (CCS infrastructure and supply chain derisking)
3. Recognition of lime recarbonation in carbon accounting
Carmeuse is committed to Europe’s climate goals. But ambition must be matched with the right industrial conditions, so we can continue producing, investing and innovating here in Europe.
⌛ The time to act is now.
