Understanding Your Market Needs
Sinter improves blast furnace operations by combining the blast furnace flux into the sinter rather than charging it separately to the top of the furnace. Iron ore fines, limestone and dolomite form agglomerated sinter through low temperature ovens. Quicklime fines are often added to assist in binding the material to improve productivity and give a stronger sinter structure. The quality, sizing, quantity and method of lime and limestone addition to the agglomeration process are important to sinter performance and productivity. Without the right balance of limestone, the integrity of the sinter can be compromised, thus breaking down and becoming too dusty.
Sulfur dioxide and other acid gases from the iron ore and fuels are released in the sinter machine ignition box. Air emissions from the collected in the wind box can be controlled with wet scrubbers. Most of the water in the wet scrubber is recycled driving up the concentration of acid gases. Treatment of the scrubber water requires acid neutralization with lime slurry.
Equipment and corresponding processes may also need updated or replaced over time from evolution of technology or normal wear and tear.
Solutions to Meet Your Needs
Let Carmeuse help your sinter plant operations run more smoothly by providing properly sized and chemically correct lime and limestone products to aid in agglomeration of your sintered products. Carmeuse can also help with your air and water needs with lime to improve air emission control and pH adjustment of water streams.
Chemical Grade Limestone
- Provides the calcium and magnesium required to begin removal of the impurities from the iron ore so that the blast furnace can produce a more pure iron
- Reduces cost at the blast furnace
- Most cost effective if milling equipment is onsite
- Provides integrity and protection of the sinter by keeping it intact
- If milling equipment is not available to you, we can provide limestone sized to your specifications
