Dolomitic Quicklime

Description:

Carmeuse provides quality dolomitic quicklime for industrial applications that require the right balance of calcium and magnesium content. Dolomitic quicklime, chemically known as calcium magnesium oxide (CaO•MgO), or commonly referred to as dolime, is derived from limestone with 35% to 46% magnesium carbonate content. Our material is routinely tested for quality and consistency, to ensure the right chemical and physical properties for industrial applications.

Benefits:

  • Calcium and magnesium content for specific application needs
  • Efficient source for pH adjustment and acidity control
  • Routine testing for quality and consistency
  • Available in a variety of sizes from pebble down to fines
  • Offers safety advantages when used to replace caustic soda

Uses for Dolomitic Quicklime

Many industrial processes and systems require dolomitic quicklime, or dolime, for specific applications, including:

  • BOF and EAF steelmaking – used in combination with high calcium lime as a fluxing agent to achieve proper slag chemistry and physical properties; proper magnesium content protects the refractory

  • Ca-Mg hydroxide manufacturing – maximum calcium and magnesium content

  • Fiberglass production – serves as a flux for modifying viscosity, preventing devitrification, and increasing the final product durability and chemical wear resistance
FAQ
What’s the difference between high calcium quicklime and dolomitic quicklime?

It all comes down to the level of calcium carbonate vs. magnesium carbonate in the originating limestone. “High calcium” indicates a high concentration of calcium carbonate, with magnesium carbonate ranging up to 5%; “dolomitic” indicates much higher magnesium carbonate levels, ranging from 35 to 46%.
