Winchester Operation Partners with Water Company to Provide Water Storage

Winchester Operation Partners with Water Company to Provide Water Storage

The Carmeuse Winchester operation reached an agreement with Frederick Water to store significant amounts of water to meet the escalating drinking water needs of the growing community. They project the drinking water needs for the community will double by 2035.

The new water treatment plant is being built across the road from the Carmeuse Winchester operation and will provide up to 8 million gallons per day of treated water, which will be drawn from two quarries owned by Carmeuse on adjacent land. As the need for water continues to grow, Frederick Water will also have the ability to draw from a nearby stream.

This agreement provides the county with significant static water storage capacity in the Carmeuse quarries and will prevent Frederick Water from having to draw water from a local stream for many years.
