Huron Operation Employee Continues Long-lasting Donation to Locks of Love

During the holidays, Carmeuse Huron Operation Site Coordinator Christine Mollison did much more than get a haircut. She cut off 13 inches of her hair and donated it to the Locks of Love organization. This is the third time she has donated her hair.

Christine said it takes three years to grow her hair long enough for the minimum length needed to make a donation. This is truly a family affair since Christine has encouraged her two daughters to follow her lead in this charitable cause.

Locks of Love was formed in 1997 and creates wigs for children suffering from medical hair loss. The nonprofit organization has recipients in all 50 states and Canada.  Their mission is to return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children free of charge.

Christine explains her sincere attachment to the Locks of Love organization, “I first heard about Locks of Love in the late 1990s and about their mission to help children with medical hair loss.  It touched my heart and I knew it was something in which I would like to participate. I donated my first ponytail shortly thereafter and again in the mid-2000s.  I encouraged my two daughters to donate their ponytails, also.  In 2018, I decided to donate at least one more time and started growing out my hair for another donation.  It seemed fitting to cut it on New Year's Eve, out with 2020!"

Pictured to the right, is a “Certificate of Appreciation” awarded by Locks of Love to Christine as she shows her generous donation of hair that was once her ponytail.
