Carmeuse Operations Support the Soo Locks Children’s Museum
Carmeuse is proud to announce a recent donation to the Soo Locks Children’s Museum (SLCM), a contribution made possible through the joint efforts of the Cedarville and Drummond Island operations.
The donation underscores Carmeuse's commitment to investing in the communities where our employees live and work, supporting a project that will serve as a dynamic cornerstone for education and community engagement in the region.
A Hub for Discovery and Play
The Soo Locks Children’s Museum is set to become a vibrant, interactive space where local history, science, and culture come alive. Designed specifically for children and their families, the museum will feature a variety of immersive exhibits tailored to the unique heritage of the Upper Peninsula. Planned highlights for the facility include:
- Water Exploration: Both Science and Nature-themed water tables.
- Local History: The Jacobsville Sandstone Construction Zone, allowing kids to build with a nod to the area's iconic red stone.
- The Great Outdoors: Interactive trees representing the changing seasons and a Fish Matching Station.
- Inclusive Spaces: A dedicated Sensory Room and a safe Infant/Toddler area.
- Community Culture: A Slap Shot space celebrating the local importance of ice hockey and a Northern Lights area.
Strengthening Community Ties
The check was officially presented to the museum’s leadership by Carmeuse representatives Amy Hoffman and Tracy Reichlin. Accepting the donation on behalf of the museum were Raquel Fernandez-Earns, President of the Board of Directors, and Ashley Flickinger, Vice President.
The museum will be such an important asset for our local families by providing a space where kids can learn through play and connect with local history.
