Luttrell Operation Receives Carbon Reduction Award

Carmeuse’s Luttrell Operation was awarded the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Carbon Reduction Award by the Knoxville Utilities Board for being the company with the largest year-over-year carbon emission improvement.

Gabriel Bolas, Knoxville Utilities Board President and CEO, said “Carmeuse is a valued customer, and this award demonstrates their commitment to being a good community neighbor and environmental steward by lowering carbon emissions.”

The Luttrell Operation was able to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by implementing new measures at the site. Upgrading kiln internals had a positive impact in reducing byproduct generation and lowering fuel consumption. New operation procedures were implemented to result in a reducing waste lime that is typically generated when kilns startup or shut down. These are just two examples of Luttrell’s large scale efforts to improve energy efficiency and lower its carbon footprint.

“We are excited to win this award because it validates the steps we are taking to reduce our carbon impact,” said Jackie Padgett, Carmeuse Senior Environmental Manager. “Responsible environmental stewardship is important to us, and we are proud to contribute to maintaining clean air for all who live and work in our community.”
